ABOUT US

Explode Studio opened in 1993 in Italy, as a simple home production facility (it was spelled “X-plode” then).

It shortly established a name in the music business for an unprecedented quality of sound for a home facility. In 1996, after a series of national and European hits, Explode became a fully functional facility. Between 1996 and 1998 artists that recorded at our studio sold over 800.000 units in Europe alone (more info available).

In 1999 the studio was moved to Brooklyn, New York. It shortly gained a reputation in the local underground scene for outstanding quality.

It grew rapidly and in 2003 a decision to move to larger facilities was made. The location was a 2000 sqf old storage, used by a local furniture store. The new facility was completely designed from scratch; first conceptualized on a lower scaled model and tested for sound efficiency on a computerized reproduction, then built with acoustics and artists in mind.

Explode Studio A opened on April 1st, 2006 and within a few months became a very popular spot amongst New York City artists; by the end of 2006 our list exceeded 150 clients. During the following year the list grew to 400, now including established artists like Dipset’s Hell Rell and Grammy Award nominated Meshell Ndegeocello.

Our client list kept growing in the following years to reach over 1,000 in 2011 and prompting us to build a second room.

Explode Studio B opened in 2012 and our engineer roster expanded. Explode Studio A features a 14′ X 15′ control room and a 4′ X 5′ iso booth for vocal or instrument recording, while Studio B’s control room is 11’x14′ with a 5’x7′ iso vocal booth. There is also a lounge area right outside each recording room, Studio A having the larger. Each iso booth has a clone monitor of the DAW, so that the artist can follow the project while in the booth (a feature unique to Explode Studios). Also, each booth is independently air conditioned.

Our studios are linked up over our own state-of-the-art Synology network. Since January 2014 we have been recording over the network to a common storage. This means that clients can seamlessly start a project and later continue in either one of our rooms. We never delete our hard disks so projects can be accessed at any time in the future.

In 2015 we counted more than 1,400 clients recording more or less regularly at our facilities, totaling over 5,000 artists passing through our booths. We decided to find a way to give more exposure to our artists and begin developing the idea of our own Radio Station.

In November 2017 Explode Radio is born, and it has been broadcasting ever since, to an audience of over 50,000 listeners in 190 countries in the world. As of 2020, our client list grew to over 12,000 artists and has seen new rising stars like Jay Critch, Designeer and Fivio Foreign starting their career in our facilities. New ventures like our green screen studio Green&White are now part of our facility and more to come!
